you're slowly dragging him under

i'm in love with the world through the eyes of a girl

If you don't own this album, I highly recommend you stop what you are doing and go purchase it right this minute. It's pretty much one of the best things ever. It might make you cry but it's totally worth it. Trust me.

I could go into many aspects of this but let's just say it gets played about once every other day. I never get tired of it.

This is probably his best work although the two records that bookended it are pretty close. There's definitely a trifecta that shines brighter than the other stuff even though a lot of that puts other artist's music to shame.

Alameda alone is probably worth your $9.99. Okay, that's my rant for the time being. Get to work and listen over and over and over again.

Happy Monday.

You know that I could be in love with almost everyone

The question of the night: Is this the greatest record ever made?

I'm of the opinion that it might actually be. I have said that about a lot of records but I am serious when it comes to Arthur Lee + Love + Forever Changes. You just can't mess with it and it's just sooooo unbelievably special, beautiful, and amazing. There's a good chance you are reading this right now and don't even who this band is or anything about them.

At the very least I urge you to check it out (6 or 7 times). I'm pretty sure you'll thank me later.

That's all I've got tonight unless I decide to start ranting about Television.

hold me close until i get sober

Why Are You Smilin'? by m3d1um

#025 - Why Are You Smilin'? - 2010

New jam. I wrote it on Saturday. It's about ups and downs and fights and drama and how people think they know each other but really they don't because a lot of it's all just a show. I encourage you to listen. Peace out.

he left his needle outside in the rain and it rusted through

Worked on a cover tonight because it's going to be epic. Probably finish it tomorrow night because there's still a bit left to do. I should also mention that everything is awesome. Especially Lost. Also Black Crowes on vinyl in a box set of 7"'s when it's Three Snakes and One Charm. Tired!

how many drugs do you have to take just to prove to her you're finally awake

Another week means another jam. I've been pretty productive lately and I'm not sure what's driving it or I am totally aware of what's driving it but just need to keep it to myself so as not to disrupt it. I wrote the chord structure for this and some of the lyrics in 2000. I always had trouble filling it out. I'm pretty happy with the end result but as always it's just really a sketch or whatever. Take a listen and I hope you like it.

#024 - Not Your Hero by m3d1um - 2000

I might actually have a few more new tracks this week because it's raining words right now. It's kind of really blowing my mind. I've always struggled to come up with lyrics and now they are just there. Whatever happened in the last few months has quite obviously changed me for the better. I'm going to go ponder that now...

words are very unnecessary

Beautiful day, beautiful music. I'm in a great mood and got a few more songs in the works. We'll see how ambitious I get. Looking like the next stuff is going to come mid to late week. Bands currently in heavy rotation:

  1. Ted Leo & the Pharmacists
  2. The Hold Steady (the new one)
  3. Nada Surf - (loving "If I Had a Hi-Fi")
  4. Elliott Smith (duh! all of it)
  5. Ryan Adams (shocker!)
The new Hold Steady is really hitting me. Get it when it comes out (unless you picked it up yesterday).

More later

so there's nothing left to say

I'm pretty lucky right now. I'm in a place where I can literally write at least one new song every single day. I don't know what changed really because before I always had problems finishing lyrics but now they just seems to come out. Really though, I'm actually having trouble keeping up because I have song ideas pop into my head and then I don't get to recording them for like two weeks and then it's almost hard to recapture the feelings because I've already moved past it. This song is a good example of that but it's funny how my songs really are person agnostic when I actually think about it (and yes I'm posting my 7th song of the week because it's necessary). I don't need to describe the background on this. It's pretty much self explanatory.

More soon because it just won't stop and I hardly ever sleep.

sweet lovely death i'm waiting for your breath

You might have noticed that I was nice enough to post 4 videos of Danzig, destroying the 80's for you to enjoy. You might also remember the time I wrote about recording Danzig covers. I'm partial to the Misfits version of Danzig although I enjoy "Mother" as much as the next human. However, metal Danzig was produced by Rick Rubin and I think anyone who has read this blog knows that I get queasy whenever I see his name attached to something. Of course, Danzig is powerful enough to circumvent being ruined by Rick Rubin. Also, remember how I used to post a lot of demos? Well, here are 6. This is a full EP of acoustic Misfits covers. I'll list them out individually for you and then also post a link to the zip with all of them. I deconstructed these songs so don't be alarmed when the intro on Astr Zombies doesn't sound like the original. I don't care. I made them mine. I hope you like them but ultimately, I like them so I'm giving them to you...Also, I dedicate this EP to my little brother for being awesome and getting me into the Misfits in the first place. I specifically recorded Astro Zombies for him.

#018 - Attitude - Because I've got some fuckin' attitude.
#019 - Skulls - Because my version is better than Evan Dando's.
#020 - Where Eagles Dare - Because I ain't no god damn son of a bitch & for HHH.
#021 - I Turned into a Martian - For myself because this is my fav Misfits song.
#022 - Last Caress - Because you can't do a Misfits cover EP and not do it.

All of them zipped. One thing...

Please remember this is art and in no way am I going out of my way to offend anyone. I am merely interpreting other people's work and mothers, children or over-sensitive people (I could name a few of those who might stumble upon this) should simply avoid it because I don't need to deal with the hassle of you being offended. Thanks. Goodnight.

attitude the one you got oh baby

hee hee. motherfuckin' epic....

all i want to know.....all i want

Dude...Danzig is a badass mofo. Seriously. This may be the shittiest performance video ever but that makes it more rad. Believe it. Seriously epic and I need one of those vests. Oh also, the best part of this video is when Danzig falls down.

attitude..you got some fuckin' attitude

Recorded some tonight and got some stuff in the works hopefully it will drop this weekend but not sure yet. I'm pretty psyched with the covers so far but need to rerecord some vocals and finish up guitars. New songs are kind of pouring like rain right now too so I'm definitely busy and going to be that way for a while. I started rerecording an old song from 2003(?). Some of the dates are a little sketchy due to massive quantities of alcohol but I know it's from '03 or '04 and I remember the night it was written. Started a brand new song tonight too so that should be done in a few days. Bed calls me even though I want to write more....tomorrow I guess...

down here at the pawn shop

I've come to realize I'm entirely too picky. I recorded a ton this weekend but I'm not sure I'll finish before next weekend because it's got to be perfect. Plus, I'm spending today listening to Sublime and not really working on it. Paper cuts are evil. Especially when you get them from Dinosaur Jr. packaging. Farm didn't even sound that good on vinyl, kind of pissed me off. Damn you Mascis! So now, I'm just writing a mid-afternoon post to hear myself talk...or write...or ramble. I miss Bradley Nowell. His death was a huge loss to music. I don't care what my brother says, that last album would have blown up regardless of him being alive or dead. There will be more talk of dead rock stars this week I assure as it is THAT week. With the lights out it's less dangerous...
